What’s the single most important thing I can do for my child to help him or her succeed and feel at home in the world?
This question focuses less on the skills, characteristics and abilities you want to instill in your child and focuses more on you as the parent – your approach to the parent/child relationship.
The answer is simple, but not easy. It’s one I have learned over the years to be my foundation in parenting – that is Show up for your kids.
Parenting is not about simple formulas It’s not a matter of ‘if you do this’ – this will happen. Parenting can be complex and challenging. There is no right way to raise a child. Even in one family, each child may need a different approach based on their needs or temperaments.
But one thing is certain – all parenting comes down to the idea of relationships.
It’s not always about obedience – especially first-time obedience. It’s about relationships.
This is what we are going to dive into this summer with our latest course called Parenting with Presence.
We’re going to learn about what attachment science says. We’re going to understand our own childhood and upbringings and how that plays into the way we parent.
If we didn’t have the best upbringing – good news here – we can learn new skills and tools! Then we’re going to explore what showing up looks like by helping your child feel safe, seen, soothed and secure.
I’d love to have you join me on this journey!
