This has quickly become my favorite planner! It’s beautifully designed and incredibly functional. I love the seasonal layout and the pages to document all the spontaneous learning that happens.

I do not buy planners as I find I don’t ever use them BUT this planner is different. Absolutely love the pages each week that allow for reflection & spontaneous learning already jumped in using those sections the moment it arrived. Also the little non official holidays brought back so many memories & may have me revive a few (for example my daughter & I used to always have Teddy Bear Picnic day I forgot all about that in August we will once again have fun with Rock Paper Scissor days) things that just create a fun school day on spur of the moment without a lot of planning outside remembering they are there these are things that built fun memories for us as my kids have grown up in homeschooling. The quotes are inspiring me & speaking to my heart already. So even if I don’t ever use the subject planner pages (which I am going to try as my son says he needs more of a detailed schedule for his day-to-day) I have my moneys worth. It’s beautiful & the cover will hold up well love the lay flat design as well as the seasonal sections!

I received a free copy to review, but as soon as I opened this planner I was blown away! I immediately sent a message to my friend who also enjoyed planners because, as I told her, this planner feels like a planner designed by a homeschooler. Not only is it beautiful, it’s practical and sturdy as well. I also really, really love the natural learning and weekly wins section, I feel like it has benefited our homeschool in helping me look for the good and the wonderful in our week and spend a few minutes documenting it. Overall I love, love, love this planner.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ To The Planner That Finally Broke My Commitment Issues …
I’m a reformed planner hoarder. My office is basically a graveyard of abandoned planners that didn’t make the cut. You know how it goes: “The layout feels off,” “The paper quality isn’t right,” “It’s just not working for me.”
But then I found the Once Upon a Homeschool Planner by Homeschool Essentials, and everything changed. This isn’t just another pretty planner – it’s genuinely different. The high-quality design is beautiful, but what really matters is how incredibly adaptable it is to your unique needs.
What Makes It Special?
As a full-time working, homeschooling parent to an autistic son, I needed something that could handle our unique rhythm. We’re unit-focused learners who love to follow our curiosity in short sprints rather than marathon-planning months ahead. This planner gets it. It provides the perfect balance of structure and flexibility, letting us adjust our plans based on changing interests and opportunities.
While we prefer the sprint approach, I can see how this would be perfect for the year-long planners too. The layout gives you plenty of space to map out your full curriculum while still keeping things flexible enough to adjust as needed. Plus, if you’re into bullet journaling, there’s ample room to get creative with your planning style – and the inspiring quotes throughout really add that extra touch of motivation when you’re mapping out those long-term goals.
The weekend reflections have become a special bonding time for my son and me. We get to celebrate our wins, adjust our approach, and plan our next adventures together. It’s turned planning from a chore into quality time that we both look forward to.
The Perfect Balance
What really sets this planner apart is how it helps track different teaching approaches while maintaining enough structure to keep us on track. The reflection prompts help us focus on the positive, which is crucial when you’re balancing homeschooling and work-from-home life.
The flexibility is perfect for our unit-based learning style. When my son’s interests shift or our schedule needs adjusting, the planner adapts with us instead of making us feel like we’ve failed the plan. It keeps us focused on what matters – the learning and growth happening each day.
For those who love to get creative with their planning, the pages provide a beautiful canvas for stickers, colorful notes, and artistic touches. Whether you’re a minimalist planner or someone who turns their planner into a work of art, there’s space for your style to shine through.
Bottom Line
To all my fellow planner-abandoners: This is the one. I’ve become that enthusiastic friend who can’t stop telling everyone about it because it’s genuinely transformed how we organize our homeschool journey. Whether you’re a structured year-at-a-glance planner or a flexible week-by-week person like me, this planner adapts to your style instead of forcing you to adapt to it.
To the makers: Please don’t ever stop producing this planner – it’s become an essential part of our homeschool life, and from what I can see, it works beautifully for all types of planning personalities.
After years of trial and error with other planners, I’ve finally found one that works perfectly for our needs, and I’m not letting go of it anytime soon.

Got the 2025-26 Planner!!! Love having the Thrive Scale for each season built in. This year more intentional to consistently use the sheets each week to record our weekly wins and things outside our traditional curriculums and capture more of those moments we share that are learning just not structured. I don’t buy planners AND now I have bought this one and will use it for a second year. Great job and it is beautiful once again.

As a homeschool mom, finding a planner that truly fits our unique needs has always been a challenge. That was until I discovered the Once Upon a Homeschool Planner. This planner has been a game changer for our family just within the last week of starting to use this product.
What I Love:
Beautiful Design: The aesthetic is calming and inspiring, making planning a joy rather than a chore.
Functional Layout: It offers ample space for daily lesson plans, notes, and reflections, helping me stay organized and focused.
Flexibility: Whether we’re following a structured curriculum or a more relaxed approach, this planner adapts to our homeschooling style.
If you’re seeking a planner that combines beauty with practicality, the Once Upon a Homeschool Planner is worth considering. It’s more than just a planner; it’s a tool that supports and enhances our homeschooling journey.

This planner fills all my homeschool needs and many things I didn’t even know I needed. The tagline says “Write the Story of Your Homeschool Year” and it truly does.
There are common pages, such as the monthly and weekly spreads, that have been improved in this planner over others I’ve used. Many planners share holidays (i.e. Labor Day), but this is the first that highlights those holidays and also includes fun days (i.e. Talk Like a Pirate Day) on the monthly spread. The weekly spread is vertical with space for six subjects/names. I really like how it’s organized since it pushed me to list out subjects and I can see where we focused throughout the week and if we need to change our focus for the next week.
There are also many pages unique to this planner, such as the monthly notes page, weekly “natural learning” page, and “weekly wins” page. This helps to see what extra things you may have done that don’t fall into the earlier subject areas, as well as focus on the good things that happened over the course of the week.
Each season, there’s a note page, monthly calendars for the quarter, thrive scores, and a place to choose things to do or focus on to make small progress.
There are many quotes throughout the planner to inspire and speak to you as a homeschool parent.
Although I received this planner free in exchange for my review, I absolutely love how well it’s put together, the layout, the extra pages, and everything about it. As someone from a state that’s highly regulated, this easily allows for tracking of everything and will make reports and narratives easier to create. It’s definitely worth purchasing to better organize your homeschool.
